Playing with light on the Numark Orbit

Following our review of the Numark Orbit in May, we heard from Brian Roberson an ex-special needs teacher and former Numark employee who has also been playing around with the Orbit. He wanted us to know about the ability to send MIDI messages to the Orbit to control the lights in realtime.

“If you send notes with certain velocities back to the Orbit, you can affect the colors of the lights. This is helpful in creating a 1-to-1, follow my directions type of activity with music, almost like a complex ‘Simon-says’.”

The MIDI Note numbers need to match the notes assigned to each pad, with the velocity sent changing the colour. Here is a rough mapping of colours to MIDI Note velocities (thanks to users on the Serato Forum: https://serato.com/forum/discussion/1063717):

1 dark blue – low
2 dark blue – medium
3 dark blue – bright
